Q: I haven't played in years, can I still join?
A: Absolutely! We welcome musicians of all skill levels, even if you want to try to play an instrument for the first time.
Q: Do I have to play in all the performances?
A: We have a number of musical ensembles to participate in and each has different performance schedules. We suggest participating in the ensembles that suit your interest and work with your schedule. If you rehearse, you should share the gift of your performance!
Q: What is the time commitment?
A: The concert band and swing band have a two hour rehearsal one night a week. We take a break during the holidays and late summer. The marching band performs two to three times a year and has a few rehearsals prior to performances.
Q: When and where are rehearsals?
A: Rehearsals for the concert band are every Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Grant Avenue Community Center, located at 216 South Grant Avenue, just one block north of Alameda. The swing band rehearses the same place and time on Tuesdays.
Q: Can I play if I don’t identify as LGBT?
A: We welcome musicians of all sexual orientation or gender identification. All we ask is that you are respectful of your fellow musicians and have a willingness to join together in creating music.
